To understand what the status light indicators and charging lights mean, refer to the following:
- Green: You are in a wireless coverage area.
- Blue: Your phone is connected to a Bluetooth-enabled device.
- Red: A new message has arrived and your selected profile is set to notify you using the flashing LED.
- Amber: The battery power level for your phone is low, or your phone is turned off and is charging.

Back up and restore
When you restore data to your BlackBerry device, all files that are stored on your device are deleted before the backup file is restored.
Backup
- Connect the device to a computer using a USB cable.
- In the BlackBerry Desktop Software, click Device.
- Click Back up.
- Perform one of the following actions:
- To back up all data, click Full Backup.
- To back up all data except e-mail messages, click Quick Backup.
- To select which types of data to back up, click Custom Backup and select the checkboxes next to the desired data.
- If desired, click Files saved on my built-in media storage.
- Click Back up.
- Click close once the backup is complete.
Restore
- Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable.
- In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click Device.
- Click Restore.
- Select the backup file you want to use.
- Perform one of the following actions:
- To restore all data, click Full restore.
- To select which data you want to restore, click Custom restore and select the checkboxes for the desired data. See KB03974 for details.
- To restore data to built-in media storage, select the Files saved on my built-in media storage checkbox.
- If the backup file is encrypted, enter the password.
- Click Restore.

Reset your device
A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. It doesn't delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.
Master reset with settings menu
- Back up all necessary data on the internal memory.
- From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
- Scroll to and select the Settings icon.
- Scroll to and select the Options icon.
- Scroll to and select Security Options.
- Scroll to and select Security Wipe.
- Enter blackberry.
- Select wipe.
Memory and SIM cards
SIM card
- Remove the back cover.
- Insert or remove the SIM card.
Note: The SIM is inserted with the gold contacts facing down and the notched corner of the SIM facing out of the slot. - Replace the back cover.
Memory card
- Remove the back cover.
- Insert or remove the memory card with the gold contacts facing down.
- Replace the back cover.

Manual network selection
The device detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.
- On the Home screen, press the Menu key.
- Scroll to and select the Settings icon.
- Scroll to the Options icon and press the touchpad.
- Scroll to Mobile Network and press the touchpad.
- Scroll to the Network Selection Mode field and press the touchpad.
- Scroll to Manual and press the touchpad.
- Scroll to and select the desired network.
- Select SelectNetwork.
Turn on/off data roaming
- From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
- Scroll to and select Settings.
- Scroll to and select Options.
- Scroll to and select Mobile Network.
- Scroll to Data Services and select one of the following options:
- On
- Off
- Off When Roaming
Turn on/off mobile data

Turn on and connect to Wi-Fi
- From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
- Scroll to and select the Manage Connections icon.
- Scroll to and select Set Up Wi-Fi Network.
- Scroll to and select Next.
- Select Scan for Networks.
Note: If Wi-Fi is off, scroll to and select Turn Wi-Fi on. - Scroll to and select the desired network.
- If required, enter a key or password.
- Scroll to and select Connect.
Note: Many public Wi-Fi networks require a log in. If required, scroll to and select Wi-Fi Hotspot Login. This launches a Web page to log in to the Wi-Fi provider's network. - Scroll to and select Next.
- Scroll to and select Finish.
APN settings
- From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
- Scroll to and select Settings.
- Scroll to and select Options.
- Scroll to and select Mobile Network.
- Scroll to Data Services and select one of the following options:
- On
- Off
- Off When Roaming
